How to Prevent Unpleasant Breath when Fasting?

Fasting is a religious practice observed by Muslims during the Ramadan period. Fasting allows us to practice self-disclipine, instill empathy, and encourage charity. However, when we are fasting sometimes we may have a bad breath. This is caused by a decrease in our saliva production due to not consuming any water and food. Hence, maintaining a good oral hygiene is important to avoid getting bad breath during fasting. Here are some tips to keep your mouth fresh, clean, and healthy during fasting period:

Brush Your Teeth Twice a Day

After sahur and before going to bed, make sure to brush your teeth thoroughly to remove plaque and bacteria from your mouth using soft-brisled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. A soft-bristled brush is gentler on your gums and prevents damaging your enamel while fluoride toothpaste helps to strengthen your tooth enamel preventing decay. It is recommended to brush your teeth in a circular motion, which is effective in removing plaque and bacteria from your teeth. It is also recommended to brush your tongue and the roof of your mouth to ensure that every part of your mouth is clean.

Flossing

Flossing helps you to remove plaque and food particles that your toothbrush can't reach, so make sure to floss in addition to brushing your teeth. While a conventional string floss does the job, a water flosser is more effective and takes less time. Bion Water Flosser W100 can easily reach the corners of your mouth that otherwise may be difficult to reach with conventional floss. Especially if you have braces or other dental works, using a conventional floss may be challenging. Bion Water Flosser W100 works with various nozzles that can accommodate to your dental works. As a result, you don’t need to spend too much time flossing your teeth, which means you can have more time to finish your sahur!

Rinse with Mouthwash

Rinsing your mouth with mouthwash is an effective way to kill bacteria in your mouth and freshen your breath. Gargle the mouthwash around your mouth for at least 30 seconds and make sure it reaches all of your oral cavities before spitting it out. This will leave your mouth fresh and clean before starting your fast.

The Bottom Line

Maintaining our oral hygiene is important as it is essential to our well-being, taking care of our oral hygiene is more important than ever when we are fasting. Follow the tips above to help you maintain your oral health, so that you do not need to worry about your oral health and can focus on your religious practices!
